Matilda Sakwa, the Kenya National Youth Service (NYS) Director General, has reproached service women for engaging in unprotected sex that has led to an alarming number of them with pregnancies.
The DG said the many trips the women make outside the college compound in the pretext of being sick is the major cause of the unwanted pregnancies.
She is now directing commanding officers in all NYS colleges to put up measures that’ll curb increase in pregnancies.
“I want to urge our commanding officers to interrogate and evaluate management styles in order to come up with working solutions,” said Sakwa as reported by West FM‘s Joseph Amunya Otieno.
The DG wondered why the service women cannot use protection despite glaring risks such as that of contracting HIV/AIDS.
“I wonder why our service women do not use protection if they find it inevitable to engage in sexual activities.
“I always find it disturbing whenever service women are compelled to separate from service on account of pregnancy more so when they are in their last stages of their training,” she said.
