We store chemicals in a mabati structure: Ivona Sec. School principal calls on area MP Nabii Nabwera to help construct a decent lab

The principal said the school needs a labaratory to compete well with others.

The principal of Ivona East Mixed Secondary School in Mautuma Ward, Lugari Constituency, has petitioned area MP Nabii Nabwera and well-wishers to step up and boost efforts to construct an equipped science laboratory in the school.

Mr. Mbasu Muyekho, who has helped the school grow since he joined it as head in 2017, has lamented the sorry state of the lab.

“We store our chemicals in an open place inside a mabati structure, which makes storage a problem and learning for students difficult,” he said.

“I have been here since 2017, when the school began in 2014 under community management. When I took over in 2017, it was in a poor state, but through CDF funds, we have constructed some classes for our students,” he said while in his office in an interview with the Western Kenya Times.

The school said the students have had to deal with a number of problems since then, such as a lack of chairs and lockers, which forced some to sit on the floor.

” I’m happy that our Member of Parliament, Hon. Nabii Nabwera, has given the education sector first priority. He should target small schools so that they can be on the same level as the big schools,” he said.

Mr. Muyeknho said it has been a year now that the school has been running without a deputy principal.

” If we have good infrastructure and enough staff, I am sure we will produce better results,” he concluded.
