Teen pregnancies have risen in Bungoma county as health practitioners call on government to intervene and curb menace.
The spike of teen pregnancies is due to the presence of technology, poverty and lack of good education has been mentioned as the main factor.
David Fwamba, an official from Ministry of Health, disclosed that 20% of school going girls are the victims of teenage pregnancies.
He mapped out Bumula Sub-county which has registered cases of about 800 girls who visited hospitals for pregnancy tests.
Recent survey conducted by the Kenya Data and Health Survey 2021 shows that majority of females who visited prenatal clinics in the region are aged between 10 and 14.
The report further indicated that between January 2022 and May 2022, 378 teenage girls have visited prenatal clinics.
