The body of a woman aged 76 has been retrieved from the Kipkaren River at Stendi Kisa in Chekalini Ward, Lugari Sub-County.
The elderly woman by the name Ronica Makambo was last seen alive today morning before reports that her body was floating on the Kipkaren River near the railways bridge just after Lugari Station.
Lugari Sub-county Officer Commanding Police Department (OCPD), Bernard Ngungu, said they received the report, retrieved his body and took it to the Webuye Mortuary in Bungom County.
The police boss said the woman stays alone near the banks of the river, a distance from where her family lives.
The OCPD said preliminary investigations show the woman died by drown but they are awaiting post mortem results to ascertain the cause of death.
