Chelsea, Arsenal axed out of Carabao Cup

The first round of Carabao Cup was played yesterday.

Chelsea and Arsenal are out of the EFL Carabao Cup after losing their matches in the first round last night.

Chelsea were punched out by Manchester City 2-0 after Riyad Mahrez and Alvarez netted goals in the 53rd and 57th minutes respectively.

Mahrez, who plays in the right wing, opened the scoreboard with a fast stunner after a lack of keen Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulbaly. Ten minutes later, Alvarez would seal the game with a bounce back goal from Benjamin Mendy’s punch.

Arsenal, on their side, had an awful night in the hands of Brighton and Albion after losing 3-1.

The Gunners were the first to score in the 20th minute through Nketiah but Danny Welbeck equalized through a penalty in the 27th minute.

Kaoru Mitoma would and in a second goal at the 58th minute and Tariq Lambtey seal the deal at the 71st minute to award Brighton a sure win.

  • West Ham 1-1 Blackburn* (Pen 9-10)

Teams that won now qualify for the next round of the competitions.
