Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera has ordered the repair of two buildings meant for classrooms at the new Sosiani Primary School in Lumakanda Ward and asked for immediate action against contractors handling public works in the constituency.
Mr. Nabwera, who made a tour at the school to inspect the work in progress ahead of the school’s opening in January, blamed Eng. Neivio Amutai for being notorious for substandard projects in the constituency.
“All the two classes were poorly done by two contractors. This is the order of the day in almost all the schools, and it seems the same people do all the work every time,” he said.
The MP said none of the contractors will be part of his new team to oversee infrastructural projects in the future.
“I have asked the Kakamega County Chief Officer of Public Works to reshuffle the contractors and bring in new ones,” he said.
The construction of two buildings and the purchase of a 1.5-acre piece of land at Sosiani Primary School were funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
The MP has called upon residents to be vigilant and assess the quality of projects funded with public money.
“Today I am not a happy man. How can you let such a project continue while you are present? This is your school, it will benefit you. Please, let’s be vigilant citizens whenever something goes wrong; stand up and say no,” he said.
He went further to assure residents that he will be present the first week of December to see the progress of the school’s project and added that in January he will hold a stakeholder meeting for a public participation as the school starts operations.
