Bishop Sulumeti Girls Lugari, a school in Lumakanda Ward in Lugari Constituency, aims for better results this year as it looks forward to doubling university entries and increase the mean score garnered in KCSE 2021.
The school is looking forward to posting impressive results in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) after a 5-year inconsistency and lack of balance in performance.
In 2017, the school managed to take three students to the university, having garnered a mean score of 3.6, a performance that would improve in 2018 when seven students got university entry grades and posted a min of 4.03.
In 2019, 19 students scored above C+ and therefore managed university entry grades as the school received a mean of 4.6 and that would shoot up in 2020, this time recording a mean score of 4.9 and 28 students managing university entry grades.
The year 2021 saw a drop in performance with 19 students scoring a C+ and above, with the school getting a mean of 4.08.
Ms. Elizabeth Chebukwa Manyasi, the Deputy Principal, said this year’s candidates are more optimistic and the school projects a better performance than the previous five years.
The school has set a target mean of 5.5 and at least 50 university entry grades from the 216 candidates registered for KCSE 2022.
The Deputy Principal said the optimism is a result of improvement in discipline among students and other factors such as the great energy in the young teachers, who form 90 percent of the school’s staff.
“Our staffs are mostly youths and self-driven and this contributed to finishing our syllabus earlier and we embarked on revisions,” she said.
