As the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) approaches, the Member of the National Assembly for Lugari Constituency, Nabii Nabwera, has donated Sh50,000 to Friends School Mugunga Secondary in Lumakanda Ward to assist candidates with preparations for the exam.
Mugunga Secondary School principal, Agnes Andaje Kulundu, said the initiative by the Member of Parliament came up during the board meeting on October 28, 2022, to ensure learners stay in school during the exam period.
“Some challenges affecting the students, such as fee payment and security, were discussed during the meeting. Hon. Nabii said he would sponsor all Form Four students to stay in school so that they can prepare for the exams in a conducive environment,” she said.
Ms. Andaje said the MP asked them to come up with a budget. Their estimation hit Sh100,000 but the Hon. Nabwera offered them Sh50,000 to be used for the period starting November 1, 2022, to December 23, 2022.
The idea was to absorb all the candidates to be part of the boarding section. Initially, 60 of the 84 students were day scholars, but now all of them will stay in school for the rest of the exam period.
“The main purpose of this initiative is to make sure all students are in school during this exam period in a move to boost the school’s performance,” the school head added.
Some of the students who spoke to the Western Kenya Times thanked Hon. Nabii Nabwera for his support and assured him of quality grades when results are out.
