Cyrus Jirongo's poinTman Kelly Walubengo defects to Ford-Kenya/Godfrey Wamalwa, WKT
Former Lugari MP and Kakamega gubernatorial aspirant Cyrus Jirongo has received a blow after IT expert-cum-politician, Kelly Walubengo, defected from his United Democratic Party (UDP) to Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford-Kenya.
Walubengo said his defection to join Ford-Kenya was reached after massive consultation with his supporters.
Mr. Walubengo unsuccessfully ran for the Webuye West parliamentary seat in 2017 on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket. In 2022, he contested for the same seat on the UDP ticket and disputed the results in court through a petition.
During his defection, he was flanked by National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula, Webuye East legislator Martin Wanyonyi, among other leaders.
He has endorsed Wafula Wakoli of Ford-Kenya to succeed Wetangula as the Bungoma Senator in the December 8 by-election.
