A 22-year-old man from Lower Kware in Mautuma Ward, Lugari Constituency in Kakamega County has been killed in cold blood after he was caught trying to break into a house at midnight.
The man, Henry Mukhwana, was caught trying to break into the house of one Bonface Simbuani who had locked himself in using a padlock, according to Mautuma Location chief Pamela Kulali.
Ms. Kulali said the thugs assumed that Mr. Simbuani was not at home after seeing the door locked with a padlock from outside, and after him hearing the commotion outside, he woke up from sleep, came out of the house from the back door before raising alarm to the attention of his neighbors.
The neighbors responded in time and cornered Mr. Mukhwana, seized him and lynched him to death as his colleagues escaped into the darkness.
According to residents who spoke to the Western Kenya Times, the lynched suspect and his brother are among the most notorious thugs responsible for a number of criminal activities reported in the area.
“You cannot leave your door open, you cannot leave your animal outside, they will take it. Whenever they are arrested, after a while, they’re out. We are tired,” one of the residents said.
Ms. Kulali has warned villagers against taking the law in their hands and urged them to report any suspected theft case to the nearest police station.
The body of the deceased was removed by Turbo Police Station and taken to Kimbilio Mortuary as investigations are launched.
