Morocco has becomes the first African nation to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals after defeating Portugal 1-0 in their quarterfinals encounter at Qatar’s Al Thumama Stadium.
The Atlas Lions will now play the winner between England and France in the semis next week.
Portugal, despite dominating in possession, had to deal with a determined Morocco in the first half with Cristiano Ronaldo packed on the bench.
Towards the end of the first half, Morocco alerted Portugal to a surprise goal in the 42nd minute when Youssef En-Nesyri put in a soft header, sending Moroccan fans to ecstatic and wild celebrations.
The half-time whistle then went off.
Ronaldo was brought in during the second-half to revive the drowning hopes of Portugal fans and he immediately looked for an opportunity by pushing on target a cross into the box but was unluckily collected by the keeper.
Continuous hit and miss by Portugal and several attempts by Morocco to seal the win saw the match end 1-0 despite 8 minutes added towards the end.
