Lugari Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Moses Gicharu, has warned that music systems used to promote the banned disco matanga will be confisticated.
The DCC, while speaking during the Jamhuri Day celebrations on Monday in Majengo, said licensed bar owners are making losses due to rise in consumption of chang’aa and other illicit brews perpetrated by disco matangas.
He insisted that disco matangas are platforms for youths to abuse drugs and engage in criminal activities which are a result of the high number of school dropouts in the sub-county.
The DCC also warned parents against spending money on circumcision ceremonies and later failing to pay fees for their children.
“We have no future if we spend our entire resources on traditional circumcision ceremonies and fail to pay school fees next year,” he said.
Mr. Gicharu assured residents of maximum security this festive season: “We have a plan to ensure you have a safe Christmas and also ensure to share what you have with those who are poor.”
