A farmer from Munyali Village in Mautuma Ward, Lugari Sub-county, woke up to the shock of finding his bean crops uprooted and carried away by thieves on Monday night.
David Andego, a middle-aged man, told WKT that his wife, Millicent Andego, was the one who discovered that their one-quarter-acre bean plantation had been cleared by unknown people at night.
“It is a shame, uncouth, and inhumane for somebody to enter someone’s property and steal; it is against the Luhya culture to still produce while it is on the farm,” Mr. Indego said.
The incident comes a few days after unknown people set fire to a sugarcane plantation, burning two and a half acres of it.
Residents are now calling upon security agencies to increase patrols in the region, especially at night.
