
Lurambi accident leaves 5 dead/Courtesy
Five people were confirmed dead as nine other survived with injuries in an accident involving a matatu at Lurambi in Kakamega County on Tuesday evening.
The vehicle rolled several times after its tyre burst on the Kakamega-Mumias Road near River Sasala.
Western Regional Traffic Police Commandant Joseph Mutiku said the injured were rushed to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Mumias and the Kakamega County General Teaching and Referral Hospital.
“Bodies of the deceased were taken to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital, Mumias mortuary,” he added.
The Standard reported that Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa said three of the nine injured victims have since been treated and discharged.
