Likuyani residents decry slow construction of the Soy-Turbo Road

Residents are furious that the road has for so long been used by politicians to hunt for votes.

Residents of Likuyani Constituency in Kakamega County have shown displeasure at the slow pace at which the Soy-Turbo Road is being constructed.

Speaking to the Western Kenya Times, the residents called out the contractor for being slow on implementing the project on the pretext of a lack of adequate resources.

“This road has been under construction since 2015 with no hopes at all of ending anytime soon. Politicians have been using it as an arena for politics with no efforts being put in to ensure that the road is completely tarred,”” said one of the residents.

A spot check on the road shows that it has only been tarmacked for a few kilometers, while the rest of it continues to be a nightmare to travelers, especially during the rainy season.

This comes even as the newly elected Member of Parliament, Hon. Innocent Mugabe, promises that the road will soon be completed to ease transportation.

Efforts to contact Hon. Mugabe and the contractor for a response on the issue bore no fruit, as our calls were not answered.

The residents are now asking for the intervention of Governor Fernandez Baraza and the area MCA, who is also in charge of roads in the Kakamega County Assembly, Hon. Brian Mafunga, to ensure that the road is fully tarmacked.
