Over 270 illicit brewers from Mautuma and Lugari wards accepted the call of Lugari Member of Parliament (MP) Nabii Nabwera to talk about ways to eradicate the business that has been blamed on the rising number of criminal cases in the area.
Mr. Nabwera held a one-on-one talk with the brewers at the Mlimani PAG Church in an in-depth discussion on alternative businesses to sustain their livelihoods.
“My people, when you walk around Mautuma Ward and see a young man age 28, you will think he is 80-years-old, why? It is because of chang’aa!” He lamented.
The meeting attended by Lugari Subcounty Police Commander Bernard Ngungu, other senior security officers and Mautuma Chief Pamela Kulali put forward measures to combat the trade and replace it with decent businesses for the locals.
The meeting resolved that the brewers would be put into groups on Friday and given funds to start projects of their choice.
Nabii also asked residents to empress education so that society can be clean and attract investors in the region.
“I have travelled 128 countries a cross the globe. What makes them better is education?. I would like you to support me on this, let us work together for better tomorrow,” he told the brewers.
