The County Government of Trans Nzoia has lowered the levies on bodaboda riders from Sh3,600 to Sh500.
This comes as a big relief to the riders whose businesses were on the edge, especially after the hike in fuel prices.
Governor George Natembeya has ordered that the tax be lowered to keep up with his promises during the campaign period.
“Governor Natembeya reduced the exorbitant levy so that our youths could work without interruption. The governor is completely committed to improving this sector,” Stanley Kirui, a member of the Trade and Industrialisation County Executive Committee, said.
Mr. Kirui said Kitale town alone has more than 30,000 motorcycles, with the whole county having 70,000 bikes involved in business.
