Barely a month before the August 9, 2022 general elections, Nabii Nabwera, then a candidate in the Lugari parliamentary election on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket, promised to establish a free lunch program for all pupils in primary schools if elected.
During a campaign rally in Mautuma Ward on July 15, 2022, Mr. Nabwera, who was trying his third stab at the seat, said the initiative would be part of his socio-economic pillar in his manifesto.
The MP’s promises highlighting agendas in his manifesto were extensively covered and published by the Western Kenya Times.
In most of his forums, the MP widely emphasized that he would put great focus on education and put the constituency on the national map.
“Let me assure you people of Lugari, especially parents, that my administration will provide a conducive environment for learners by ensuring there are enough classes to ease the congestion of pupils in classes. Additionally, I will provide meals for learners,” the MP was quoted as saying.
Seven months after his election, the Western Kenya Times has determined that the MP hasn’t acted on this promise yet, notwithstanding his tremendous efforts in boosting the standards of education in the constituency.
