An elderly woman from Msangula West Village in Mautuma Ward, Lugari Sub-County is counting losses after unknown people set her kitchen on fire, burning it to ashes with a cow inside.
Norah Amuyunzu, 77, said she came out from the main house after hearing screams at around 2 a.m. last night and found her house, which also had other valuables, consumed in an inferno.
Efforts by neighbors to help put out the fire and salvage some property were futile.

“I am a widow; my husband died a long time ago, and this cow, which was 7 months pregnant, was my only hope, my income, my everything! Now I am hopeless,” she told the Western Kenya Times.
Femina Minayo, the village elder, expressed her shock saying such an incident has never happened in the area.
“This woman is suffering from high blood pressure. Now this issue has added to it. We’re hoping the culprits will be found and action taken against them,” the administrator said.
Residents are calling upon the security agencies and the area MCA to tighten security in the area to prevent such occurrences from happening again.
