Kitale Catholic Bishop Henry Juma Odonya on Sunday emphasized the need for Trans County to have a public university.
Speaking at St. Philop’s Kapchepsir Catholic Church in Cherangany during a fund drive, the cleric underscored the need for total support and promotion of values that he said can only be attained if universal education is given prominence.
The bishop said that the distinct enterprise of education, whether at home, school, college, or university, is built on the belief that it is God who enlightens the eyes of humans’ minds and noted that the region will undergo some rapid transformation and further lead to technological advancement.
“Education facilitates truth and freedom above all when it places the eternal Word of God, Jesus Christ, at its center,” he said.
Governor George Natembeya, who was represented by his personal assistant Felix Sialo, noted that his administration values education.
The Deputy County Secretary said that the Governor had embarked on a program of paying school fees for candidates from poor families who scored 250 in their KCPE, while others who didn’t make the requisite mark will not be left out.
He noted that the Trans Nzoia County government was set to construct a state-of-the art stadium to help nurture natural talent among the youth.
He further added that other programs, among them fertilizer distribution, roads, cattle dips, and others, will be in place and asked Trans Nzoia County residents to support the governor and other leaders in accelerating development.
A total of Sh780,000 was raised for the church’s construction.
