The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) Director General, Ezra Chiloba, was forced to flee after irate demonstrators stormed his meeting at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga sports complex, where he was officiating the celebration to mark World Consumer Rights Day.
The demonstrators are said to have trekked all the way from Kondele to the County Commissioner’s office, where Kisumu Central ODM chairman Seth Kanga had directed them after hearing that ICT CS Eliud Owalo was present.
They found Chiloba having an interview, which he cut short, stormed into his vehicle, and left.
The protesters went further and scattered those who were on a dining queue, chased them away, and started eating the food as organizers and their visitors went without food.
“You can be inside here feeling good when we go hungry. We only see these juices and eggs on TV,” said one demonstrator.
Security personnel at the event stood in disbelief without doing anything as the demonstrators destroyed some of the things at the event.
