University student leaders arrested by police in Nairobi on March 18, 2023/Pulse
At least 50 student leaders under the Kenya University Students Organization (KUSO) have been arrested just moments before making a presser at a hotel in Nairobi.
Police said the students were apprehended for organizing an illegal meeting that was meant to advise supporters ahead of the much-anticipated mass action by Azimio leader Raila Odinga on March 20.
The students are said to have been ferried to Central Police Station, where they are likely to spend the weekend before being arraigned in court on Monday.
This comes a few days after Raila Odinga declared Monday a public holiday and called on supporters to match his efforts to protest the high cost of living.
