Why a man chained himself at DP Ruto’s office gate

A young man surprised the whole nation this morning after he tied himself at the entrance of Deputy President William Ruto’s Harambee House Annex office, claiming that he wasn’t given the job he was promised.

Lawrence Amuke Oprong, who claims to be the son of former Busia North Member of Parliament Fredrick Oduya Oprong, now deceased, said the DP promised him a job that never came through.

The man, who had chained his waist to the gate grills, said he would free himself only after the DP addressed him. Even security officers’ efforts to remove him from the scene were futile.

It forced the intervention of a contingent of 20 plainclothes police, who used a hacksaw to break the chain and whisk him to the central police station.

Police say they will charge him with causing a disturbance in a public place.
