Fans of Arsenal FC from Lugari Sub-County in Kakamega County are resuming their tree-planting drive despite the disappointment that resulted from their team failing to clinch the Premier League as was highly anticipated.
The group, made up of 55 members, will be planting a total of 1,200 trees at St. Francis Majengo and Lumakanda Township Primary Schools in Lumakanda Ward on Saturday.
The fans took a break to heal after Arsenal lost the hard-fought Premier League title race to Manchester City, who clinched it for the third time in a row.
Two months ago, they planted 1000 trees at Ivona Mixed Secondary School and Mbagara Primary School in Mautuma Ward and 2,280 trees at Holy Family Musembe Secondary School in Chekalini Ward.
The objective of initiative is to convert the love of the game into self- and community-empowering activities.
“It is true that we will be resuming our initiative on Saturday. We are not losing track just because our team failed to win the title, as people expect. We are more than that, and our purpose is even greater,” said Levy Mbayachi, a member of the fanbase.
The chairman of the group, Ayub Okwako, earlier said that the drive targets the whole of Lugari Sub-County and that they intend to plant trees in every ward.
