Sifuna receives warm reception in Bumula during Omtatah’s sister’s burial

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Saturday received a warm reception from mourners and residents in Kabula, Bumula Constituency, Bungoma County, where he joined Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah and his family for the burial of Omtatah’s late sister, Mary Goretti Wamukoya.

Sifuna, who was accompanied by members of the Linda Mwananchi team, was among political leaders who attended the burial ceremony to stand with the Okoiti and Musita families as they laid Wamukoya to rest.

Wamukoya, a retired teacher, died on August 21, 2026, at Mater Hospital in Nairobi following a long illness. She was 68 years old and was married to Mwalimu Fanuel Musita of Bungoma County. She was survived by five children and several grandchildren.

Omtatah had described his sister as a woman of strength, kindness, and wisdom who remained deeply devoted to her family.

“Mary, you fought a good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. Rest in eternal peace,” Omtatah said during the funeral.

Sifuna’s appearance at the funeral comes as he continues to expand his political engagements across Western Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The senator has in recent months stepped up his presence in the region through the Linda Mwananchi movement, holding meetings and engaging residents on issues affecting the region.
