Senior journalist Dennis Sabuni Wanyonyi, who has declared his intention to vie for the Chevavya Ward MCA seat in the 2027 General Elections, has moved to dismiss claims that he is being fronted as a “project” by the sitting MCA, Hon. Barlex Samuel Juma Pius.
Speaking to WKT, Wanyonyi insisted that his decision to join the race is entirely his own, driven by what he described as growing goodwill and support from residents of Chevavya Ward, and not by backing from any political figure.
“I’m not a project of anyone. Those people moving around saying that I’m someone’s project are not telling the truth. I will go to the ballot,” he said.
The aspirant also addressed speculation that Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera would hand him a direct ticket into the race, terming such reports baseless rumors with no factual grounding.
Wanyonyi further sought to clarify his political standing, stating that he has not aligned himself with either the Linda Mwananchi or Broad-Based camps that have come to define much of the region’s political discourse. He maintained that he remains a neutral and independent candidate.
“I’m not in any team, either Linda Mwananchi or Broad-Based. I’m neutral. Let the people of Chevavya know that,” he told WKT.
In his remarks, the MCA hopeful also extended his gratitude to the youth of Chevavya Ward for the support they have shown him since indicating his interest in the seat. He said their enthusiasm has been an eye-opener, reflecting a broader yearning among young people in the ward for change and new leadership as the 2027 polls approach.
