A woman reportedly died while seated aboard a matatu in Nairobi, in circumstances that have left many shaken after details of her final moments began circulating on social media.
The woman, identified as Betty and said to hail from Senende in Vihiga County, reportedly boarded a matatu at Kangemi heading into town. According to the accounts being shared, she paid her fare and took her seat, leaning back as though settling in for a quiet nap.
Unbeknownst to fellow passengers and the crew, those were said to be her final moments alive.
The conductor, or makanga, reportedly did not notice anything amiss until the matatu had emptied out at the end of the journey. While other passengers disembarked one by one, Betty remained in her seat, motionless. It was only then that those on board realized something was seriously wrong.
Details of what led to her death, including a possible medical cause, have not been officially confirmed. The account has been circulating on social media, accompanied by tributes and expressions of shock from members of the public.
