Sifuna launches The Equitable Party ahead of 2027 presidential bid

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has unveiled The Equitable Party (TEP) as his political vehicle ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna was unveiled as the party leader during a launch ceremony in Nairobi on Sunday, October 4, attended by several leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

Among those present were Siaya Governor James Orengo, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, and former Tharaka Nithi Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

During the event, Sifuna was also declared TEP’s preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 election. The launch comes after weeks of uncertainty over the political vehicle Sifuna would use to pursue his presidential ambitions.

Efforts by his allies to secure and rebrand another political party had faced regulatory hurdles, prompting the movement to settle on TEP.

Despite Sunday’s launch, TEP is not a newly registered political party. The party was registered in March 2022 and is headquartered in Nairobi. The party uses a weighing-scale symbol and the slogan “Tusawazishe,” which translates to “let us make it equal.”

The development gives Sifuna a formal political platform as he seeks to expand the Linda Mwananchi Movement and build support ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
