Kibabii University to confer honorary doctorate on Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka

Kibabii University has named Bungoma Governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka as its candidate for an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (DHumLitt), Honoris Causa.

The degree will be conferred during the university’s 11th Graduation Ceremony on Friday, November 20, 2026.

The award recognizes Lusaka’s contribution to public service, devolved governance, education, institutional development, and environmental conservation. His career includes serving as Speaker of the Senate, Permanent Secretary for Livestock Development, and the inaugural Governor of Bungoma County.

The university credited him with advancing public administration, county institution-building, and early childhood education, and with bringing parliamentary proceedings closer to citizens.

In higher education, the notice says he supported Kibabii University’s journey towards receiving its charter in 2015 and the development of its Bachelor of Cooperative and Entrepreneurship Management program. It also notes his championing of environmental conservation and eco-tourism, including initiatives linked to the Mount Elgon ecosystem.

Kibabii University has invited the public to join in celebrating Lusaka’s service and his contribution to education, governance, and the advancement of society.

The notice was signed by Prof. Joshua Ondura Ogendo, Ag. Vice-Chancellor.
