Veronicah Ann joins Njenga Girls after story by WKT landed her a sponsorship

Ann Veronicah, Lonah Agape’s sister who recently scooped a full scholarship after the Western Kenya Times aired their plight, has also found help.

Veronicah was today admitted to Form One at Bishop Njenga Girls after two local politicians offered to help her. 

This comes a week after her sister joined St. Bridgid’s Girls in Trans Nzoia County after a well-wisher, who read her story in the Western Kenya Times, offered her a full scholarship.

The two sisters’ story claiming that they were unable to continue with their studies due to a lack of fees went viral. Their father, Aggrey Okoyo, had lamented that his family was living in dire poverty and he couldn’t raise fees for his two brilliant daughters.

Veronicah managed to get 378 marks while her sister Lonah scooped 413 from the KCPE 2021 exam they did at Free Methodist Umoja Primary School in Mautuma.

Alex Atingo, who is seeking the Lugari parliamentary seat on the ANC ticket, and Charles Anyona, who is vying for the Mautuma Ward post on the UDP ticket, are the two leaders who collectively paid the girl’s fees and did her shopping.

Speaking to the Western Kenya Times via phone, Mr. Anyona expressed satisfaction that the girl has finally joined secondary school.

“It is important to educate the girl child in the society because girls play a vital role in this current generation,” he said.

Mr.Anyona went on to urge other leaders to help needy students who come from humble backgrounds secure an education.

Mr. Aggrey Akoyo confirmed that her daughters had received help and thanked the two leaders for answering his family’s plight.
