Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has ordered ministry officials to probe the mysterious deaths of two girls at Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls Highschool in Kakamega County.
Reports say that the deaths occurred in separate incidents while the students were receiving treatment.
This comes a month after a malaria outbreak was reported in the school and a number of students were admitted.
Kakamega County Director of Education, Dickson Ogonya, said that the ministry has dispatched officials to the school to ascertain the cause of the deaths.
“We have instructed the ministry of education on the ground to visit the school and investigate the reports relating to the deaths of students and prepare a report that will be submitted to the Ministry of Education for action,” he said.
Nation reported that one of the students died while receiving treatment for malaria despite having a pre-existing condition. Reports indicate that the other student developed complications following a surgical treatment.
