Eric Latiff of KTN, who was moderating last evening’s Presidential Debate alongside Citizen TV’s Yvonne Okwara, was scrutinizing DP William Ruto’s view on public perception of his “appetite” for land.
Ruto sweated over the question of numerous court cases surrounding his acquisition of several parcels of land, including the Muteshi matter in which he was ordered by court to surrender 100 acres that belonged to an Internally Displaced Person (IDP).
“I am proposing to deal firmly with the fight against corruption. Any piece of land that I have is legally acquired. I was a victim of fraudulent sellers of the land (Muteshi land). What the court ordered me to do is pay for the three years I stayed on the land. The people who sold the land to me were taken to court.
“Acquisition of property is a legitimate endeavor. I have paid value for any property I have… For your information, I am probably the only politician in Kenya that has been audited left, right, upside down, and inside out on any matter. If I was a quiet business person, I would not attract the same kind of labeling that I have been subjected to,” the DP said.
It was at this juncture that Latiff, in an interesting take on the DP’s response, sarcastically responded to his confession that he owned several parcels of land across the country.
“How much is enough?”
“Enough is enough,” Ruto responded, leaving the audience at the Catholic University of East Africa clapping and laughing.
