A woman identified as Sharon Oparanya has caused a stir online after appearing in court in a drunken stupor, forcing the senior magistrate principal to postpone the session.
Sharon was asked to appear before the court to answer charges of drunk driving after being arrested along Ngong road in Nairobi County.
However, Magistrate Martha Nanzushi was forced to call off the hearing after noticing Sharon snoring loudly and in no way sober to answer the charges.
The judge directed the suspect to be remanded in custody until tomorrow when she will be sober enough to answer the charges.
Ms. Oparanya’s charge sheet by the Director of Public Prosecution read that she committed the offense on Spetember 22, 2022 at 7.35 am along Ngong road, while driving a Mercedes Benz of registration number KDH 250R under the influence of alcohol.
Driving under the influence of alcohol is punishable by law and one can be fined Sh500,000 or a jail term of ten years or both.
