A picture is going round showing Ugandan doctors kneeling before President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni begging him to vie for the seventh seat in office has gone viral.
The workers, who are members pf the Uganda Medical Association (UMA), are seen in a video kneeling before the president’s dais, reportedly during the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Youth Patriotism Symposium at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala on Saturday.
“Your Excellency, thank you. You have uplifted us (medical practitioners). We kneel before you after assessing that you are capable. We have assessed that you have the power. You have everything needed,” one of the doctors, Dr. Oledo, is heard speaking in Luganda as quoted by The Monitor.
The doctor begs Museveni, 78, to “contest again in 2026 and take us ahead as you secure our future. We want Uganda to reach where God expects it to be.”
Dr. Oledo’s action has elicited mixed reactions, sparking criticism among a section of the medics calling for his resignation.
Museveni, 78, has been in power since 1986 when he ascended to power through guerrilla warfare.
Dr. Oledo has however come under heavy criticism since making the remarks, with a section of the UMA members led by Edith Nakku-Jolaba, and the association’s secretary general, Herbert Luswata, say Oledo, even calling for his resignation.
“The act of kneeling by Dr. Oledo and the team doesn’t represent the Modus Operandi of the Association, UMA is nonpartisan and therefore, does not participate in political activities of partisan nature,” Nakku-Jolaba and Luswata said in a joint statement.

It is a pity, that now I can not express – there is no free time. I will be released – I will necessarily express the opinion.
