Christmas comes early for widows in Trans Nzoia
Widows, orphans, and elderly people in slums in Matisi-Saboti Constituency in Trans Nzoia County had something to smile about after a well-wisher decided to share food and goodies with them as a show of goodwill ahead of Christmas Day.
Speaking to the Western Kenya Times in Kitale, beneficiaries of the donation, led by Florence Namachanja and Hellen Mukhwana, appreciated the Melisa Organization for standing by them all the time when the need arose.
The widows asked other well-wishers to join hands and help them.
“Today, I am here receiving Christmas gifts, and my prayer is that God continue to expand this organization to a bigger one and continue helping the needy people in our society. We had nothing to celebrate, but the Melisa Organization has put a smile on our faces,” Mrs. Namanchanja said.
The Melisa Organization, apart from the various donations, has adopted several children from vulnerable families for education.
Patricia Melisa, the founder of the Melisa Organization, who also doubles as an official in the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Trans Nzoia branch, said she developed the will to help those going through difficulties in life because she was once helped by a well-wisher to accomplish her dream through education.
Melisa added that her happiness is to deny herself, donate whatever she has, and assist the vulnerable families in society so they can feel like others without discrimination based on religion or tribe.
More than 120 widows, orphans, and elderly people were fed food and drinks before being gifted with Christmas early.
Melisa further appreciated other well-wishers like Khetia and Transmatt supermarkets, which donated unga and cooking oil for the vulnerable families.
The world will be celebrating Christmas Day this Sunday, December 25, 2022.
