The Western Kenya Times has learnt that there are formidable plans to strike an alliance between three politicians who vied for the Lugari Constituency parliamentary seat in the August 9, 2022 general election in a move to unseat Nabii Nabwera, the incumbent.
Word from political corridors has it that the three, Bryan Munika Liseche, Alex Atingo and Isaac GM Andabwa, are underway plans to form a pact and field one of them to challenge Nabii Nabwera in the 2027 general elections.
One of the politicians, who spoke to the Western Kenya Times, said they will be seeking to have their favorite vie on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, but said they haven’t formalized the deal, but indeed “plans are underway”.
The source revealed that Bryan Liseche, who flexed financial muscles in the past election, has the best odds among the three.
The Western Kenya Times established that Mr. Liseche spent at least Sh25 million in campaigns, estimated to be the highest spending by a candidate in the race contested by 12 of them.
Mr. Nabwera, who vied on an Orange Democratic (ODM) party ticket, won the election after garnering 23,159 votes ahead of his closest rival, Andabwa of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), who scooped 11,086 votes.
Atingo of the Amani National Congress (ANC) came third with 6,008 votes as Liseche of the United Democratic Party (UDP) finished fourth with 5,562 votes.
The total number of votes cast was 51,829, with 907 spoilt.
Nabii Nabwera emerged victorious after two unsuccessful attempts in the 2013 and 2017 general elections, both in which he was defeated by the now Kakamega County Deputy Governor, Ayub Savula.
