A security guard from Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a Grade Two pupil at Marula Comprehensive School in Lugari Ward over the weekend.
The suspect, identified as Joseph Matangi, is accused of grabbing the child as she played in the school compound in the evening, dragging her into a nearby maize plantation, and defiling her.
According to the child’s father, Bernard Sindani, he returned from work to find his daughter complaining of stomach and head pains. They bought her medicine, but her condition deteriorated. He said he asked his wife to find out what was wrong because the child appeared to be in greater pain whenever her mother questioned her. The child continued to complain of stomach and head pains.
“I decided to intervene and called some women to question her. After they spoke to her, the child said the watchman at Marula grabbed her on Sunday and defiled her,” Mr. Sindani told WKT.
The family later took her to a private hospital, which referred them to Mlimani Sub-County Health Centre. Police were involved, and a medical examination confirmed that the child had been defiled.
Joseph was arrested and arraigned in court, where he denied the charges. He is currently in remand and is expected to appear in court again soon.
The child’s condition remains serious as she spends most of her time sleeping. The family says it is awaiting justice.
