Four people are in police custody as police investigate the murder of a 65-year-old Australian national in Namwacha village in Bungoma South Sub-County.
Lilian Mikasia, who is the wife of the deceased and 33 years old, is one of the suspects in the incident. The police were called to the scene and found the deceased, Hewitt Peter John, lying on his back in the living room near the main door.
According to Bungoma Police Commander, Francis Kooli, Mr. John had a fatal and visible injury on the back of his head.
Claverton Mbuya, a guard at the home, said that Lilian Mikasia had been away for a long time and only returned on the fateful day at around 6:30 PM.
He said the couple had engaged in a long family dispute before Lilian requested to take a walk within the compound, something her husband resisted.
Not long after that, an undisclosed group of individuals entered the residence and assaulted the deceased. The security guard notified law enforcement, who showed up at the location and discovered Lilian Mikasia and three other individuals with multiple possessions belonging to the deceased, which included KES 14,700, a mobile phone from the brand Oppo, a wallet, and an identity card for a foreigner’s certificate.
Furthermore, the suspects had in their possession an Itel mobile phone that belonged to Claverton Mbuya, which had been taken during the attack. Moreover, law enforcement found a machete with bloodstains at the location and preserved it as proof.
The police apprehended and detained all four suspects, which include Lilian Mikasia, Zablon Wafula Nyukuri, Emanuel Simiyu, and John Bwile Wakwabubi, without delay.
The deceased person’s body was transported to the mortuary at Bungoma County Referral Hospital, where it will undergo an examination by a pathologist.
