Kibabii University dismisses reports of appointing new Vice Chancellor

Kibabii University has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that Professor Julius Kiprop Maiyo has been appointed as the institution’s new Vice Chancellor.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 15, the university clarified that no such appointment has been made by the University Council and affirmed that the current substantive Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo, remains in office.

“The University Council has not appointed a new Vice Chancellor. Prof. Isaac Ipara Odeo continues to serve as the substantive Vice Chancellor and is carrying out his official duties,”

The institution urged students, staff, stakeholders, and members of the public to ignore unverified information circulating online and rely only on official communication channels.

The clarification follows widespread social media posts alleging that Prof. Maiyo had been selected to take over the university’s leadership. Kibabii University described the claims as false and misleading.

Sources familiar with the matter indicated that the university had planned a farewell event for Prof. Odeo later this week, although no official announcement regarding a leadership transition has been made. Reports suggest that the Vice Chancellor is expected to retire at the end of the month, but the university has not confirmed this publicly.

Prof. Odeo has served as the university’s Vice Chancellor since 2016, having previously held the positions of Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal of Kibabii University. During his tenure, the institution expanded its academic programs, established new schools and innovation initiatives, and increased research funding.

The university reiterated that any future changes in leadership would be communicated through formal and official channels.
