Bryan Munika Liseche, a candidate in the 2022 Lugari parliamentary election, has accused area MP Nabii Nabwera of exploiting desperate teachers by allegedly selling Teachers Service Commission (TSC) appointment letters for exorbitant amounts—reportedly up to Sh200,000.
In a video obtained by WKT, Liseche claims that Nabwera recently received about 20 letters from the TSC, which he then offered to unemployed teachers only after they paid hefty bribes.
“If you were given letters to give to teachers, why don’t you just give them instead of exploiting their situation?” Liseche questioned. “Kindly, let’s respect our teachers. Let’s not use politics to exploit them.”
The allegations highlight a growing concern over the politicization of the teacher recruitment process in the country. Liseche alleged that the MP has on several occasions publicly announced the availability of TSC letters during functions, later selling them to individuals—some from outside Lugari Constituency.
Some disturbing allegations indicate that Mr. Nabwera has been requesting personal favors from female teachers and large sums of money between Sh150,000 and Sh200,000 from others in exchange for TSC appointment letters.
“This is a shameful, unethical, and illegal act that exploits the desperation of our educated young people and denies deserving candidates opportunities based on merit,” said a resident reacting to the claims in a social media forum.
Liseche, who has declared his bid for the 2027 parliamentary race, also accused the MP of intimidating local MCAs and urged the Kakamega County Governor, Fernandes Barasa, to work more closely with them to shield them from political interference.
He further faulted Nabwera for concentrating too heavily on education—an area, he alleges, the MP is using for personal gain—while neglecting other critical sectors like roads, healthcare, and infrastructure that were part of his campaign promises.
“Stop putting all your focus on education—an area we know you have personal interests in. Change, because these people will take you home in 2027,” Liseche warned, adding that the MP should embrace criticism instead of treating it as opposition.
Dismissing claims that Nabwera will face no serious challenge in the next election, Liseche promised a more aggressive and inclusive campaign that targets all groups within the constituency.
WKT will reach out to Nabii Nabwera to obtain a comment on some of the allegations raised.
