CGTN Africa journalist Nick Mudimba collapses and dies

Mudimba collapsed and died at his home in Syokimau, Machakos County, on the evening of Sunday, March 23, 2025. He was with his family when the tragic incident occurred.

A family member revealed that Mudimba had been unwell and was diagnosed on Saturday with, among other conditions, elevated uric acid levels. Despite seeking medical attention and returning home on Sunday in seemingly improved health, the journalist later succumbed to what appeared to be a sudden medical episode.

According to witnesses, Mudimba watched the football match between Harambee Stars and Gabon before taking his prescribed medication. Shortly afterward, he collapsed and started convulsing. Efforts to save him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has since been moved to a mortuary in Syokimau, awaiting an autopsy and further medical examinations.

Colleagues and media professionals across the industry have expressed their sorrow, describing Mudimba as a hardworking and dedicated journalist whose impactful reporting left a mark on many lives. Some of his associates noted that they were unaware of his health struggles before his untimely death.

Mudimba had an illustrious career in journalism, having worked with KTN and Switch TV before joining CGTN Africa, where he served as a senior reporter based in Nairobi.

CGTN Africa is the African division of China Global Television Network, the English-language news channel operated by China Central Television (CCTV). The network, headquartered in Nairobi, manages bureaus in Lagos, Cairo, Johannesburg, and other locations across the continent.
