Drama was witnessed in Kakamega a dead woman ‘stopped’ a hearse from going further on the way to burial ‘until dowry is paid.
Mildred Makokha, the deceased woman, is said to have died from pregnancy complications and her dowry was never paid.
The two families had decided to take her body from St. Mary’s Mumias hospital mortuary for burial at her home in Makunga, Navakholo Sub-county.
The hearse came to a halt and efforts to jumpstart it failed, forcing the intervention of village elders who concluded that the deceased was dissatisfied that her dowry was not settled.
The elders then “talked to the decease” to persuade her that the dowry would be paid and that she “accepts to be buried at her homestead”.
After agreeing on when and how the dowry would be paid, the body was then put in a pick-up and taken home for burial.
