Gold worth billions discovered in Kakamega

The discovery is a great boost to Kakamega County.

Kakamega County is proving rich with natural resources, thanks to Shanta Gold, a gold mining company that has announced an increase in the discovery of the mineral in Western Kenya.

According to a press conference held by the company on March 9, 2022, the Rumula region of Kakamega County is the area endowed with 37 percent of the mineral.

The company’s CEO, Eric Zurrin, said drilling efforts led to the discovery of 45,359 kilograms (1.6 million ounces) of the precious mineral.

The gold is estimated to be worth KSh 331 billion.

“We are delighted with the transformative drilling results announced at the Ramula target, adding 434k oz grading to 2.08 g/t and increasing total resources at our West Kenya Project by a significant 37 percent to 1.6 million oz,” Zurin said.

He added that “this further strengthens our view that the region is a major new gold district and an area of massive future growth for the company.”
