Former Lugari MP and KANU-era minister Cyrus Jirongo is mourning the loss of his daughter, Lorraine Elizabeth Khalamwa Jelagat, who passed away after a short illness.
Speaking during her requiem mass at AIC Milimani, Nairobi, on March 19, Jirongo addressed questions from friends and political allies, including Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale, regarding why he would not bury his daughter at his own compound.

Jirongo explained that Lorraine, who was a mother, will be laid to rest at her mother’s home in Kitale, as he believes her children should be raised by their grandmother.
“My daughter had children. I cannot take Caro’s grandchildren and give Anne to take care of them,” Jirongo stated. “If I care about them, I can only help them if they are with their grandmother.”
Jirongo, who hails from Virhembe Village in Vihiga County, later settled in Lugari, but emphasized that his daughter’s burial will be held privately at her mother’s home on Friday, March 21.
The bereaved politician was joined by family, friends, and political colleagues in remembering Lorraine, as they paid their last respects during the memorial service.
