KCSE 2021: Giants of Lugari fail to shine as other sub-counties produce ‘As’

The KCSE 2021 was released on Saturday.

Secondary schools in Lugari Sub-County failed to feature in the top lists of the best performing in the region and countrywide.

Highly-ranked schools such as Archbishop Njenga Girls, Bishop Sulumeti Girls Lugari and St. Paul’s Boys did not have a single student scoring an A (plain) compared to other sub-counties such as Kimilili where Friends School Kamusinga had 31 As.

Matunda S.A. Mixed Day, a sub-county level school in Likuyani, produced an ‘A’ student who was first in Western and among the best countrywide.

Back at home, Holy Family Musembe in Chekalini Ward, which had a total of 115 candidates, produced the best student in Lugari sub-county with an A- (minus) as 32 candidates managed to score university entry grades. The school had a mean of 5.2.

Archbishop Njenga Girls, from the same ward, managed to produce 170 students with university entry grades out of the total 304. The first candidate had a B+ (plus). ABN had a mean of 6.7.

St. Paul’s Boys in Lugari Ward, which recorded a mean of 4.3 from 5.2 last year, had only 12 scoring university entry grades out of 78 as the first student scored a B- (minus).

Bishop Sulumeti had the first student score a B (plain) as 19 students out of 168 scored university entry grades. The school recorded a mean score of 4.48.

St. Augustine’s Mlimani in Mautuma had 35 students who scored university entry grades. The first one had a B+ (plus). The school, which recorded slight improvement, had a mean of 5.3.

Other renowned schools such as St. Cecelia Girls Mautuma and St. Lukes Boys Lumakanda recorded less impressive results.

A teacher from one of the schools said the sub-county education management is to blame for the substandard results.

“People are sleeping on their jobs at the sub-county education office. They don’t carry out quality assessment tests hence the repeating pattern of results in the sub-county,” the teacher said.
