Police in Kitale are investigating a shooting incident in which a student from Kitale National Polytechnic was seriously injured following an altercation with a gunman in the Kibomet area of Trans Nzoia County.
A police officer attached to Kitale Police Station has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody awaiting arraignment.
According to a police report, witnesses positively identified the suspect during an identification parade conducted at the station on Thursday, confirming that he was the one who shot the student.
The incident occurred at dawn on October 22, 2025, at Norec Shopping Centre, where the victim and his friends were playing pool. Witnesses told police that an argument erupted between the student and a man later identified as a police officer. The suspect allegedly drew his firearm and shot the student at close range before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
Responding officers recovered two spent 9mm cartridges and a bullet head outside the pool shop. Bloodstains found at the scene confirmed that the shooting took place there.
The student was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition as investigations into the incident continue.
