Kakamega County, like many regions of the Mulembe community, has remained loyal to Azimio la Umoja, presidential candidate Raila Odinga, and even beefed up their support in last week’s election.
After bagging gubernatorial seats in Vihiga, Trans Nzoia and Busia, Raila Odinga has scooped 8 out of 12 National Assembly seats in Kakamega County. New entrants registering in Lugari and Likuyani Sub-counties, that’s Nabii Nabwera and Innocent Mugabe respectively.
Nabii Daraja Nabwera garnered 23,159 votes to be named the successor of Ayub Savula. Daraja defeated his closest rival, Isaac Andabwa of DAP-K, who garnered 11,086 votes.
On his part, Innocent Mugabe won the Likuyani seat after garnering 17,543 and unseating Dr. Enock Wamalwa Kibunguchy of Ford-K, who received 13,382 votes.
Mugabe, a former Mombasa County Chief Officer, stepped down as running mate of outgoing Lugari MP Ayub Savula for the gubernatorial seat but decided to vie as an MP after Savula dropped his bid to be running mate to Fernandes Barasa.
Raila’s MPs in Lurambi,Khwisero, Mumias West, Matungu, Butere, and Ikolomani constituencies successfully defended their seats.
Bernard Shinali of Ikolomani
In Ikolomani Constituency, incumbent Benard Masaka Shinali successfully defended his seat after receiving 24,738, trouncing his closest opponent, Vincent Mukhono of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), who garnered 4,862 votes.
The voter turnout in Ikolomani was 33,317 (59.2%).
Oscar Nabulindo of Matungu
Peter Oscar Nabulindo retained his Matungu seat after receiving 22,528 votes.
Nabulindo came into parliament in March 2021 through a by-election following the demise of the then MP, Justus Murunga.
Tindi Mwale of Butere
Tindi Mwale also retained his Butere seat after getting 23,898 votes against his closest competitor, Habil Nanjendo of the ANC, who garnered 12,597 votes.
Titus Khamala of Lurambi
Bishop Titus Khamala retained his seat in Lurambi Constituency after polling 32,309 votes, defeating his closest rival, Timothy Vikiru Bunyali of ODM, who got 9,342 votes.
Chritopher Aseka of Khwisero
Incumbent Christopher Aseka of Khwisero Constituency defeated his main challenger, Godfrey Kanoti of the ANC, after getting 28,156 votes. Kanoti managed to get 4,673 votes.
John Naicca of Mumias West
In Mumias West Constituency, John Naicca Manya retained his seat after getting 15,868 votes against his closest opponent, former Sports CS Mohamed Echesa who lost on a UDA ticket with 11,056 votes.
The ANC of Musalia Mudavadi managed to get three seats each in Navakholo, Malava, and Shinyalu constituencies. Eugene Wamalwa’s DAP-K secured one seat in Mumias East.
