Lugari pupil suffers broken arm in alleged assault by teacher

A family in Makongeni village in Mautuma Ward, Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County, is demanding justice after a 14-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted by her teacher, resulting in a broken arm.

The victim, a Grade 6 pupil at St. Louis Saisi Primary School, reportedly sustained the injury after being beaten by her teacher, identified as Henry Ogolla.

Luke Mkwana, the pupil’s father, said he received a distress call from his daughter while at work, urging him to come home due to an incident at school. Upon returning, he learned that she had been hospitalized for her injuries.

Mr. Mkwana stated that he has been contacted by the school’s headteacher, Everline Barasa, for a meeting, but he has yet to attend.

Efforts to reach the school’s administration for comment have been unsuccessful, as calls to the headteacher have gone unanswered.

The incident has sparked outrage among parents and community members. While initial discussions were held about organizing a protest to demand justice, concerned individuals have been advised to seek legal avenues to address the matter appropriately.

Mr. Mkwana highlighted the financial and emotional toll the incident has taken on his family, emphasizing that his priority remains his daughter’s recovery and ensuring she continues with her education.

Authorities have yet to comment on the allegations, but the family insists they will not rest until justice is served.
