The teachers’ fraternity in Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, is mourning the sudden and tragic death of one of their colleagues who died in a road accident on the evening of October 10th, along the Lumakanda–Manyonyi Road.

The deceased, Toben Jumba Mulanda, a Junior Secondary School (JSS) teacher at Kiwanja Ndege Comprehensive School in Lugari Ward, was in his early thirties. He had been employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) earlier this year.

According to eyewitness accounts, Mwalimu Toben, who hails from Sokomoko in Marakusi, Lugari Ward, was involved in a head-on collision between two motorbikes. Tragically, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Upon impact, he was thrown onto the tarmac, where he suffered a severe head injury. He died on his way to Lumakanda County Hospital.

Sources indicate that he was still breathing when help arrived, but his injuries were too severe.

Images seen by WKT, which cannot be published due to their graphic nature, show significant trauma to his face and head.

His body is currently preserved at a local morgue as preparations for his burial continue. The loss has deeply affected colleagues, students, and the entire community, who remember him as a dedicated and promising young teacher.

  • From everyone at WKT, we wish the family, colleagues, and friends comfort during this difficult time. May Teacher Toben’s soul rest in eternal peace.
