The woman and her two kids were deep into sleep when the incident happened.

A woman and her daughter from Mutaho Village in Musoli, Ikolomani Sub-County of Kakamega County, are nursing serious injuries at Kakamega County Referral Hospital after their house was set on fire while they were sleeping.

In an incident that occurred on Tuesday morning, Robina Vulayi, 40, sustained burn injuries on her hands and legs while her five-year-old daughter, who was the most affected, was badly burned on her face.

Her 9-year-old son escaped uninjured.

The mother of two, who is a second wife, says she was deep asleep when a loud bang on the door woke her up before petrol was poured inside the house and lit.

Madam Christine, the community area administrator, said that the woman had wrangled with her husband, Cornelius Ajuta, and her spouse’s brothers, who wanted her to leave with her kids on accusations that she was a witch.

Before the fire incident, her house’s doors and windows were even being dismantled before the area administration intervened.

Ms. Vulayi suspects that they are the ones behind the heinous act that has left her and her children traumatized.

Ms. Vulayi, who has been married for 13 years, says she is being threatened by her co-wife and is afraid of the safety of her two kids. She is asking for help to vacate her children and belongings because she has nowhere else to go.

She is also begging for relevant authorities to take action against the culprits whom she says are well known.
